What we Stand
For

By the people is an organization of individuals who believe that government must truly be by the people. Not money, not corporations, not oligarchs but people. We seek to ensure that every citizen has the right to contribute equally to public discourse and public policy at all levels of government. We seek to promote institutions and practices of government that enable these contributions.

We also believe that government must be for the people. Treating all people with equal respect and working to promote each person’s welfare should be the first aim of government. We recognize that people disagree about fundamental aspects of who we are and what our purpose is on earth. We also appreciate that what contributes to one person’s welfare can sometimes come at the expense of the welfare of others. We favor open discourse to find common ground and to create processes that can lead to greater trust and understanding to promote the welfare of all.
